So You Wanna Be A Stylist?

Many people believe Rhianna, Beyonce, and Gwen wake up and immediately look fabulous. This is so not the case. Unlike us common folk, most stars employ stylists, fashion editors, and fashion PR people to create the looks that we see them wear. Andre Leon Talley of Vogue is responsible for dressing Jennifer Hudson for her first Oscar’s broadcast. (What a disaster that python bolero jacket was.) I’ve often dreamed of what my life would be like as a stylist.

One of the coolest things about loving fashion is putting together looks from different magazines, eras, and styles. I love the Studio 54 era, the glam of Halston, and the wonderful clothing Diana Ross wore in Mahogany. Wouldn’t it be great if you could grab images from everywhere and create fashion spreads just like they do in the fashion magazines? Well there is! Polyvore.com is an online community of fashionistas and Internet stylists who love to mix and match looks for fun, networking opportunities, and contests. I swear this is the perfect site for me considering how I absolutely abhor Myspace. Check out the set I created using 1970s blaxploitation icon, Pam Grier.

This site pulls any image you find from around the web and imports them into a photo editor. Happy styling!
