Old Navy Goes Tribal…Sigh

So I went shopping on 34th street yesterday.  I made a quick sweep through Old Navy to see the new summer items. When I got past the double doors… there it was! A huge poster of 3 models wearing some of the featured items in the front of the store. Apparently, the jungle, urban, or tribal look is in. Sigh…

The first thing that struck me was that in this Caribbean themed display the black, dark-skinned model was in the center of the spread and prominently featured. (I’ve always heard black models get the most work, if any during the summer months because clothes are usually brighter and look better against dark skin.)  Secondly, the black model was wearing a beautiful gold lame one-piece swim suit. Her hair was natural and her skin was glowing. It was here that I stopped being proud.

Dreamin’ of Route 27 East

I was on the phone the other night with my friend Linda when she asked if I’d like to go out to her uncle’s place in The Hamptons…HELLS YEAH!!!  For those of you who don’t know, have been living under a rock, or maybe aren’t from the East Coast, The Hamptons (on the eastern-most tip of Long Island) is the absolute “ish” during the summer months.  Hanging in The Hamptons is the epitome of being sheshefroufroula. All I’m saying is it is the best.

Maybe you’ve heard of Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs’ summer white party or Star Jones-Reynolds’ (wait, didn’t she put Miss Al out of the house? Well, whatever) opulent home. There are parties, great places to eat, heated swimming pools, and wonderful beaches just 2 1/2 hours outside of Manhattan. Cute boys???!?!? Looking fierce is a must!

If you are going out east, what will you be wearing?

Fendi Circle Pattern Dress, $2,480, Luella Smithy Shoulder Bag, $1,195, Alexander McQueen Mesh peep-toe Sandals, $1,540; Chloe Filao Sunglasses, $330; Louis Vuitton Cruiser Bag 45, $1,730

Ok, $7,275 for a weekend outfit for the Hamptons???!?!?! Well… YEAH!!

SEX-y Spoilers

Oh GOD! Could the movie come out already? NYPost.com has a list of spoilers. Don’t read it if you don’t want to know anything…Oh, I can’t, I can’t. I have to tell something! Samantha doesn’t live in New York any longer. GASP!!!!!???!?!?

And in other annoying news, could this be right, the film might possibly make a debut at Cannes. Been there! Great parties, great food, fabulous people. It’s very sheshefroufroula (what is sheshefroufroula? More on that later. LOL!) but isn’t this the quintessential New York movie?? It doesn’t seem right to have a premiere anywhere else except home.

Green Is Fabulous

The fashion industry is in full swing when it comes to the “green phenomenon.” For me it started last spring when I spent 2 hours in the rain standing in line at the Anya Hindmarch store on 60th and Madison for a “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” Canvas tote. I got two and made a heap of cash selling one on ebay. (Someone all the way in Texas purchased it.)  I carried it for a while, got a lot of attention for it and threw it into a bin with my loads of other bags. It’s been about 8 months since I last carried that tote and guess what? I’m still using plastic bags something fierce.

Becoming green seems to fit the do-gooder attitude in the fiercely liberal fashion community. I have seen so many initiatives and blogs about how to help the environment that it is only natural that the fashion community jumped on board. According to Woman’s Wear Daily the opportunities to “go green” are endless

In fashion, this may involve any of the following initiatives: sourcing sustainable materials, growing organic fibers, contracting with factories whose treatment of workers is ethical, delivering garments in a way that has the least impact on the environment, reducing energy and chemical emissions and finding unique ways to dispose of waste.

Fashion TV: New Sex and the City Trailer

So I went to see that God awful movie, Semi-Pro with Will Farrell. The best thing about the whole movie was the newly cut preview of the Sex and the City movie. The previous trailer was so cryptic. Anyhoo. Now we know Big’s full name… John James Preston. Hmmm… not sure if I like it. But I think I’m beginning to put the story together.

Is it just me or does Cynthina Nixon (Miranda) look like she’s had some work done around the eyes? And doesn’t Jennifer Hudson look cute?
