Louis Vuitton and ©MURAKAMI Go To Brooklyn

Takashi Murakami

A few weeks ago when I was sitting at work daydreaming of what I should be doing I came across this job description of a position at the Brooklyn Museum of Art for a sales associate in a stand alone Louis Vuitton store. I was like, “are you kidding me? What’s that?” Now I hear, infact, that there is going to be a small store in the newly refreshed Brooklyn Museum of Art in celebration of the Japanese pop artist Takashi Murakami.

The show starts on April 3rd with a special musical performance. It is currently sold out and with good reason, Kanye West is rumored to be the featured performer. Damn! I’d like to see ‘Ye do “Stronger” live!

Apparently, Takashi Murakami has created a custom design for Louis Vuitton which will be featured on handbags specifically at this store. Not really a fan of the ©MURAKAMI  LV logo look, but since the artist uses bold colors hopefully the bags will be interesting.

If you live in NYC you may have seen the work of this artist, in conjunction with Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). The MTA displayed Takashi Murakami’s project entitled WINK in the Vanderbilt Hall of Grand Central Terminal back in February of 2001.

For more information contact the Brooklyn Museum.

Fashion TV: Louis Vuitton Commercials

I know I’m late on this but below is Louis Vuitton’s first television commercial ever. All I have to say is where are the bags?????

And while we are on the topic of Louis Vuitton, do we really need a specialty line from the rap star and super music producer Pharrell Williams? Pharrell, you’re cute but please… PLEASE!

I’m a Bag Whore… Didn’t I tell you?

I swear I am. I will do ANYTHING for a bag. I love high end bags, bags that are worth more than a mortgage payment, and even bags bought on the sidewalk in Soho. I LOVE LOVE LOVE handbags! I think it was Wendy Williams who said one time on her nationally syndicated radio show that bags and accessories are a fat girl’s true vice when it comes to fashion. Why? Since we can’t fit the clothes and maybe even the shoes, we buy up everything else.

That is so true about me. Before I got Lasik surgery I wore Chanel glasses and carried an authentic Chanel wallet.  I have all of the Burberry fragrances along with the matching travel case that was “the free gift” with purchase.  I even own a pair of pink, Chanel double “C” earrings that were all the rage about 5 years ago. This, all because I couldn’t walk into Chanel and purchase couture in my size.

Slowly but surely, designers are coming around. Norma Kamali has put out a few plus size pieces such as this red, side drape dress made out of polyester and spandex. It goes up to 3x, but I’m not sure if it’s worth $298. We’ll just have to see… you know I ordered it! But until more designers go beyond standard sizing, I’ll continue to be a bag whore and lust after the following:

Balenciaga bag by Balenciaga

or maybe this… Chloe Paddington Tote - brick red from Chloe.  And finally, no fashionista’s bag game is correct without a little something from LV. This tote would look perfect on my trip to Paris and Provence this summer!
